Youthful Pierrefonds Dollard riding chief hopes Liberals can bounce back

In the last federal election, the NDP wave  scored surprising victories in many ridings across Quebec, including long time Liberal stronghold Pierrefonds-Dollard when Lysane Blanchette-Lamothe's upset veteran Liberal Bernard Patry.   With the next vote about two years away, riding associations are starting to prepare themselves.

Jordan Gentile

In  Pierrefonds-Dollard, the future is being entrusted in an energetic 21 year old Concordia University Political  Science student. Jordan Gentile has been on the job for a little more than a year now.  He worked on present Liberal leader Justin Trudeau’s Papineau riding election in 2011 and decided  to pursue the helm of his own local riding when their president, Jean Raymond, stepped down. As if he is not busy enough, Gentile also works as a supervisor of customer service at the head office of the Aldo Group.

Gentile told me that Pierrefonds-Dollard was one of the few ridings in the country not to be affected by redistribution. “Once all of the riding boundaries in the country are formally announced, we will go about picking our candidate,” he says. “We know it will not be easy as the NDP MP has done a lot of work in the riding.”

Who would my star Liberal candidate be? Former Lester B. Pearson School Board president Marcus Tabachnick did not dismiss the possibility when I raised it with him recently.

Permit me to disagree with your choice of a federal Liberal candidate for the Pierrefonds-Dollard riding. I support Jordan Gentile. Here's why:

On Dec. 10, 2013, I sent a signed letter to the offices of Liberal Party of Canada and its leader Justin Trudeau. Here are some excerpts:

" Thank you for sending me the : Liberal Statement on Human Rights Day.

JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA - Liberal Rights, Freedoms, and International Justice Critic, Irwin Cotler, issued the following statement today on Human Rights Day:

"Today, we commemorate the 65 th anniversary of the United Nations' adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights - the Magna Carta of human rights - and Reflect on the essential rights guaranteed to every child, woman, and man across the globe.... "

It is in the above spirit that I write this Open Letter to Justin Trudeau, Leader of the Federal Liberal Party :

It is out of respect for the fundamental principle of democracy , the teaching profession , and your departed father, Prime Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau , that I write this letter.

Mr. Marcus Tabachnick intends to run in the riding where I live. The irony lies in the fact that he may very well seek my vote , yet he deprived me of my democratic right to ask questions at the public question periods of the LBPSB Council meetings, which I have been attending for 15 years.

As a matter of high regard for your father , a proponent of civil liberties , I may very well offer my services, strictly as a volunteer, to any other Liberal candidate running in Pierrefonds-Dollard.

    That's democracy. "

Consequently, I support Jordan Gentile. He is young , energetic and hard working. He helped Justin Trudeau and Denis Coderre in their respective campaigns : MP and Montreal Mayor. No question Jordan Gentile would be a valuable asset for the federal Liberal party.
