New Yangtze to open December 17

Less than a week after he officially bought the new property, Marco Yau will bring the Yangtze Chinese Restaurant back to life on Saturday, December 17 (4 p.m.) at its new NDG location. Tchang Kiang by Yangtze is  located at  6066 Sherbrooke Street West (corner of Hampton). The entire staff from the original Van Horne locale, which was destroyed by fire on December 3, will be on duty. Enhanced menus have been printed and plans call to rebuild on Van Horne in the months ahead.

Here is the official announcement from the restaurant's marketing consultant, Mel Leitman.

  1. Fantastic news! When Yangtze burned down, I was just thinking how terrible this was because Tchang Kiang had just closed down a few months earlier (my other favorite Chinese restaurant!).

Will the new location be renamed "Yangtze", or keep the old Tchang Kiang name? Or perhaps a combination of the two (hah how 'bout...The Yang Kiang!)

Not quite the same as having the old restaurant back (hopefully they rebuild soon), but at least the old kitchen is re-opening as of tomorrow! And just down the street from me too, certainly within walking distance!

Indeed this news is an early Christmas present. :)

    1. Just revisiting my last year's comment...

As it turns out, I made my very first trip to the new Yangtze on Christmas Eve. Christmas present indeed, what my family and I received was a LUMP OF COAL! :(

Sorry to say not only does the new restaurant not live up to either Tchang Kiang or Yangtze (not even in the same ballpark!) but failed miserably in general just as a restaurant eating experience. See my comments in the more recent blog posts for all the details, but suffice to say, I will never return again. R.I.P. Yangtze.
